One thing that shocked me when I was researching Miss Universe is this year will have the highest number of contestants in Miss Universe history. Last year Miss South Africa was the betting favorite at +250, but there was some controversy because some fellow contestants mentioned that she had some 'Special Relationships' with not one but two judges. So far this year has been quiet with controversy, so I see the winner have some outstanding betting odds.

Who needs some Miss Universe free picks? Last year Miss South Africa was 23 years old when she won, but the two years prior a 26-year-old won and a 24-year-old. Tons of hype on Miss Russia Yulia Polyachikhina, who is an 18-year-old high school graduate. However, I don't see an 18-year-old winning this competition. Money will be flowing in on the 23-year-old Miss Thailand since she gets this event in her backyard, but just because you host the event doesn't give you the edge when it comes to the Miss Universe pageant. I believe the 'Over' 23.5 is the 'Best Bet' on the board, and it wouldn't shock me to see someone 25 years old taking the crown.

Miss Spain Angela Ponce
Miss Spain Angela Ponce is the first openly transgender woman to be a contestant in the 2018 Miss Universe Pageant. According to the NY Post, Ponce proclaimed, 'I always say: Having a vagina didn’t transform me into a woman. I am a woman, already before birth, because my identity is here.' According to Telegraph, Ponce hopes to send a strong message to President Donald Trump, as he is the former owner of Miss Universe. Ponce makes it a point to promote transgender rights, as well as raise awareness about inclusivity, tolerance and diversity.
In an interview with Today, Ponce said she's wanted to compete in pageants since she was a young child. She just didn't know if it would ever be possible. Ponce said, 'I never imagined (I would make it to Miss Universe) because I lived in a society where everyone said I couldn’t do that. And I didn’t have the information to realize that my dream to be a woman could ever actually be realized.”

A Miss Universe contestant is being called out for bullying after making fun of a fellow contestant’s language skills. The competition is underway in Thailand.
In a now-expired Instagram Live video, Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers can be heard joking to Miss Australia and Miss Colombia about how Miss Vietnam speaks.
“What do you think about Miss Vietnam?” she asks her friends, before laughing, “… and she pretends to know so much English, and you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she … [smiles and nods].”
