We suppose since many other main players in the big cat game are jailed, facing charges or laying low, it makes sense that Carole Baskin is extending her 15-minutes of fame and putting her dance skills to the test on the famed dance competition series.

For the unfamiliar, Dancing with the Stars is a reality competition series where a professional dancer of the opposite sex is paired with a celebrity to compete against other celebrities for votes from judges, with the goal of making it to the ‘Mirrorball’ and winning the competition. The dancer with the lowest point score each week is eliminated.

How do past Dancing with the Stars winners stack up?

Dancing with the Stars has been on since 2005. Since being on the air over a decade, a variety of winners have taken the final trophy and earned the judges scores.

However, there’s never been a winner who was primarily known for being featured in a documentary (although there have been a few known for starring in a reality series, namely Hannah Brown, Nyle DiMarco and Melissa Rycroft) so statistically, the odds aren’t in Baskin’s favor. Then again, neither are the odds over at online sportsbook BetOnline.

Carole is the underdog, favored to win at +5000 versus the favorite, AJ McLean at +400. McLean was a member of boy band the Backstreet Boys, and historically, singers and former boyband members have fared well. In fact, 14.29% of winners have been singers, with one notable winner Nick Lachey, a former member of the group 98°. If anyone remembers the slick moves of the late nineties and early aughts, Carole might be in for a rude awakening (especially given Baskin has stated on the record she only absorbs media about cats, who knows if she even knows what a backstreet boy is?)

Based on past winners (and intuition), our top 3 picks to win the competition are former Backstreet Boy AJ McLean, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weird and Nelly.

While McLean and Weir are the clear favorites (Weir has already excelled at Olympic-level ice dancing) Nelly is also a strong contender to win. While not known for choreography throughout his music career, singers have a good track record on DWTS. Plus, Nelly has been known to try his hand at dancing. If you want to look beyond the clear favorites, Nelly is the best pick here.

It’s also worth noting that Bindi Irwin, a wildlife conservationist won her season. Maybe working with animals and dancing has a correlation? Carole was often seen biking around her tiger conservation, so we’re left in the dark when it comes to how she moves.

We’re not sure is Carole will be the second DWTS contestant to work with animals and win, but we’ll have an idea after this season of DWTS airs.
